\u201cThe Psychology of Terrorist Behavior: Current and Future Directions for Research\u201d
\n<\/strong>John Horgan, Georgia State University<\/p>\n

Several unassailable findings emerge from four decades of psychological research on terrorist behavior. Among them is the now indisputable fact that terrorist motivation is defined by its diversity and complexity. Also, at least from a demographic perspective, no stable or reliable profile has been found. Furthermore, given the changing nature of terrorism, one is unlikely to ever be found. To critics, this represents a failure of research. To close observers, it is merely the outcome of that research. Yet, even this important issue represents only a fragment of psychological research on terrorist behavior today. In this presentation, John Horgan highlights several exciting new developments the field has witnessed in recent years. In doing so, he will offer recommendations for addressing lingering gaps as well as future avenues for exploration.<\/p>\n
