Chiel de Groot

Intern

Chiel de Groot obtained a bachelor’s degree in Applied Physics in Delft, after which he enrolled in the VU Amsterdam’s one-year master’s programme Theology and Religion, simultaneous with the Applied Physics master at TU Delft. He is involved in the Extreme Beliefs project with his master thesis on distrust in scientific consensus and the degree in which it is connected to conspiracy thinking. This offers a possible explanation how one fundamentalist belief can pave the way for another. This research aims to shed light on if and how fundamentalism can lead to distrusting institutions.
