Maurits Potappel has a master’s degree in Law at the University of Leiden and is pursuing a master’s degree in Theology and Religious Studies at the VU. At this moment he works for the Scientific Institute for the Christian Democratic Party. He is writing a report on the rule of law and editing a book on this topic which will be published this summer. For his internship at the Extreme Beliefs Project, he will inquire what the notions of secularity and human dignity entail and how they can be applied to counter religious and extreme right fundamentalism. He will do so by writing a research paper in which he explores the concepts of secularity and human dignity and their applicability in the context of the rule of law.
