Michiel Bouman has a bachelor’s degree in Medicine but after following a minor Theology he changed gear to the fields of theology and philosophy. He has recently enrolled in the research master Theology and Religious Studies at the VU. For his internship at the Extreme Beliefs Project he will inquire what the currently prevailing images of God are in U.S. Protestant fundamentalist groups. He will do so by developing a conceptual map of God images, containing several attribute pairs, such as passibility/impassibility, which then can be used to indicate the God image of several quintessential U.S. protestant fundamentalist texts. This way it should become clear if it is possible to speak about the typical U.S. protestant fundamentalist image of God.
